Diced ginger with cane sugar adds a sweet contrast and distinctive character. In granola, it works well as a finishing detail: small pieces distributed through the mixture change each spoonful. This recipe uses it as its own ingredient rather than treating it as fresh ginger.
It is not a direct swap for fresh ginger
This product includes cane sugar and has a different texture from fresh root. Avoid replacing one with the other at the same weight in every recipe. In a cake it can provide small sweet pieces; in a sauce calling for grated fresh ginger, the result will be different.
For easier distribution, chop some cubes into smaller pieces with a clean knife and reserve a few whole ones to serve. The right amount depends on the contrast you enjoy and the other sweet ingredients in the dish.
Simple granola for about four servings
Ingredients: 150 g rolled oats, 30 g pumpkin seeds, 20 g mild olive oil, 15 g syrup or honey and 25–30 g diced ginger. Optional: a pinch of cinnamon. Use syrup rather than honey for a vegan version.
- Heat the oven to about 160 °C. Mix oats, seeds, oil, syrup or honey and cinnamon.
- Spread over a lined baking tray.
- Bake for roughly 18–25 minutes, stirring halfway and watching for burning. Ovens vary.
- Cool completely before adding the chopped ginger.
Adding ginger at the end preserves its texture and lets you distribute it without exposing it to the whole baking time. Do not automatically add more syrup: the ginger already contains cane sugar.
Serving ideas
Try a small portion with plain yoghurt and apple, or scatter it over baked fruit. For a softer texture, mix the granola into yoghurt a few minutes before eating. Check oats and other ingredients for allergens; add nuts only if suitable for your needs.
Beyond breakfast
The Pamir Gold 150 g organic diced ginger pouch can also be used in cakes, biscuits and accompaniments. Start with a little and consider the sweetness of the whole recipe. Store the ginger according to its label. Keep fully cooled granola in a clean, dry container and make amounts you will use soon.
